Our approach
What Montessori means in this house
Montessori is a way of arranging a room and a morning around what young children do on their own: look closely, repeat, and want to do it themselves. We describe our approach as Montessori because the rooms, the materials and the way our guides teach follow that thinking.
We have left out the big claims. What we can show you is a room, and a morning in it.

In practice
Four things you will notice on a tour
A prepared room
Everything is child-sized and has a place. A child can reach, carry and put back without asking.
Chosen work
Children choose from the shelf and stay with a piece of work as long as it holds them.
Mixed ages
Three, four and five-year-olds in one room, so every child is sometimes the youngest and sometimes the oldest.
A guide who steps back
The guide shows a piece of work once and then watches. Help comes when a child asks for it, or when the guide sees it is needed.
Come and see it in a room
A morning visit shows the approach better than a page can.
